Publishing Galleries With MGM
|
This brief tutorial is taken from the Help file within MGM Joomla! Gallery Manager and presented here to give the reader an idea of how to use this component. - All gallery image folders reside within the /images/stories folder of the Media Manager. This enables one to use the Media Manager to create a new gallery folder and upload some images. It is also possible to upload a ZIP file of images, see Step 8 below.
- Once you have created a folder and uploaded some images, go to Components -> MGM Gallery manager -> Manage Galleries. This will take one to the Manage Galleries page. From here, create a new gallery by clicking on the New button in the Button Bar.
- On the Gallery content tab, provide a name for the new gallery, select the desired Path to the gallery folder and one's preferred gallery template. Other options may be changed if desired for image and thumbnail properties, etc.
- On the Gallery properties tab, enter the Author and Description details. Press Save.
- Upon return to the Image Manager/Gallery System page, click on the Add Photos link. Enter descriptions or details that you wish to appear below the thumbnails in one's gallery.
- Upon pressing Save, the system will generate thumbnails and return to the Image Manager/Gallery System page. Please note that during this process MGM will check if the process takes too long by comparing with the system time limit. If necessary it will stop and give a message. To continue processing one should go to "Add Photos" again.
- Now, all that is left to do is insert a "tag" into one's content page where the desired gallery is to appear. MGM doesn't publish galleries itself, they are published using a 'mambot' wherever this tag is present. Simply insert {imggallery 1}, {imggallery 2}, {imggallery 3}, etc. from within the content editor. The gallery ID number must correspond to the Id number as it appears in 'Manage galleries'.
- As mentioned in Step 1, it is possible to upload a ZIP file of photos:
- Start by going to Components -> MGM Gallery manager -> Manage Galleries. Simply click on the Upload ZIP file tab.
- From here, choose the desired Destination folder. If a New folder is desired, enter a New folder name.
- Next, click on Browse... to locate the ZIP file and then click on Upload file. The new folder will be created under /images/stories and the contents of the ZIP file will be placed within.
- A results page will appear with a list of the uploaded images and a reminder to define a new gallery for the uploaded images. Click Continue to return to the Manage Galleries page.
- Continue with Steps 2 through 7 above.
Additional Notes - It is only necessary to install MGM Joomla! Gallery Manager as a Component, the Mambot installation is handled automatically. The same applies when uninstalling MGM.
- While the uninstaller no longer deletes galleries from the database, templates _are_ deleted. This behavior enables one to recover from a failed template editing attempt by simply uninstalling and reinstalling MGM. Things are back to normal in minutes.
- Mac users: If you do not have Stuffit Standard with DropZip, please download CleanArchiver. Just drag a folder of images onto the application icon and it will make a zip file ready for upload. CleanArchiver is available from Macupdate. To answer the question about future support for Stuffit uploads, the answer is "No." Stuffit uses proprietary alorithms that are not Open Source.
